چکیده

The Breeder Genetic Algorithm BGA models arti cial selection as performed by human breeders The science of breeding is based on advanced statistical methods In this paper a connection between genetic algorithm theory and the science of breeding is made We show how the response to selection equation and the concept of heritability can be applied to predict the behavior of the BGA Selection recombination and mutation are analyzed within this framework It is shown that recombination and mutation are complementary search operators The theoretical results are obtained under the assumption of additive gene e ects For general tness landscapes regression techniques for estimating the heritability are used to analyze and control the BGA The method of decomposing the genetic variance into an additive and a nonadditive part connects the case of additive tness functions with the general case

Niching Methods with the Breeder Genetic Algorithm for Geometric Primitive Extraction: Preliminary Results

Geometric primitive extraction or localization is a widely used method in image recognition tasks. A geometric primitive is a curve or surface, which can be described by an equation with a number of free parameters. A major problem faced in geometric primitive extraction deals with the characteristics of the search space: multimodal, nonlineal, noisy and highly dimensional; and with the possibl...

Evolution of a Hop eld Associative Memory by the Breeder Genetic Algorithm

We apply some variants of evolutionary computations to the Hop eld model of associative memory. In this paper, we use the Breeder Genetic Algorithm (BGA) to explore the optimal set of synaptic weights with respect to the storage capacity. We present the BGA has tremendous ability to search a solution in the massively multi-modal landscape of the synaptic weight space. The main goal of this stud...

Cellular Evolutionary Algorithms for Solving Protein Folding Problem

Proteins are vital components of living cells. A number of diseases such as Alzheimer's, Cystic fibrosis and Mad Cow diseases are shown to result from malfunctioning of proteins. Protein folding problem is the process of predicting the optimal 3D molecular structure of a protein, or tertiary structure, which is an indication of its proper function. An enhancement over Cellular Genetic Algorithm...

Evaluation of Genetic Variability in a Breeder Flock of Native Chicken Based on Randomly Amplified Polymorphic DNA Markers

A study was undertaken to evaluate the genetic variation in the 10th generation of a breeder flock of native breed selected for high egg and meat production in native fowls breeding station, Mazandaran, Iran. Venous blood samples were collected from 100 birds of both sexes. The RAPD-PCR technique was applied to generate a DNA fingerprint of individuals. Initially, a total of 20 ten-nucleotide a...
